In this subunit students study the basics of physics of sound. 
They learn that sound is caused by vibrations and they explore how sound travels. They learn about the relationship of loudness and pitch to the amplitude and frequency of vibrations. They investigate the sounds of the human vocal cords. They also learn about the anatomy and functioning of the human ear.
