In this element you will find activities and resources for developing the use of argumentation in the science classroom. As you move from one activity to the next you will explore what an argument in science is, and why argumentation is important in the science classroom.
Many activities and resources refer to ESTABLISH IBSE unit activities but other well-known resources are also presented together with important references for further reading. As argumentation often involve debating, many of these activities are more suitable for group work, rather than in isolation. The information presented in this element will highlight suggestions for carrying out argumentation activities for groups together with information on group work strategies and techniques.
The aims of this TEP element are to:
- Provide examples of different argumentation activities and web links to resources
- Outline how to adapt teaching practice to organise, manage and support argumentation in the classroom
