Extra activity a) - Testing sorption properties of hydrogel

Learning Aims:
  • Examination of changing physical properties of dried and hydrated hydrogel
Materials:
  • Sodium polyacrylate or another hydrogel
  • Distilled water
  • Ceramic evaporator and spoon
  • Beaker (150 cm3)
Procedure:

Put one spoon of sodium polyacrylate into the evaporator and then add ca. 100 cm3 of water. Observe any changes.
